“Disgust is just curiosity standing a little farther back.”

She found it under a flowerpot. It was damp, lumpy, and equipped with an unreasonable number of eyes. It blinked.

“Absolutely not,” she said, as she fetched the magnifying glass.

Up close, things did not improve. There were bumps. There were drips. One part of it appeared to be wiggling independently. “Oh, you are horrible,” she whispered. The little thing blinked again. She smiled.

Five minutes later, she had named him Walter.

You know you shouldn't look. Unfortunately, that has never been a particularly effective reason not to.

Gross Curious is for anyone who has ever discovered something strange, announced “ew,” and then immediately moved three inches closer.

Hold a magnifying glass over one spectacularly improper little creature: damp, drippy, magnificently lumpy, and blessed with far more eyes than good judgment would recommend.

The closer you look, the worse he gets. Which, naturally, makes him better.
