There are several ways to become a Bog Witch. None of them are official. Usually it begins with moss. You admire some on a rock. Then you start noticing the different kinds. Soon you're crouched beside a fallen log in perfectly good clothes because something tiny and green is happening and apparently you need to see it. Frogs become important. Mushrooms require investigation. A little mud stops being a reason to turn around. Eventually you develop strong opinions about things called “weeds” and begin bringing interesting sticks home for reasons that are difficult to defend. There is no ceremony. No secret oath. One day you simply look down, realize you're standing ankle-deep in a marsh talking encouragingly to a frog, and understand.

Bog Witch celebrates a particular kind of wild-hearted nature lover: someone drawn to moss, frogs, marshes, mushrooms, muddy gardens, strange plants, old folklore, and the quiet magic of places that have never learned to behave.

The artwork gives that identity a wonderfully unlikely mascot—a wide-eyed frog tucked beneath an enormous pointed witch hat, surrounded by cattails and marsh plants. Bold black linework and hand-drawn texture give the illustration the character of old folk art or something discovered in the margins of a very questionable field guide.
